Kent Police to Scrap Schools Liaison Officers

Media Release

Kent Police has announced it will be withdrawing the 12 police officers who perform this role.

Ian Pointon, Chairman of Kent Police Federation says,

"This is the reality of cuts to police budgets. Whilst I appreciate the concern and disappointment, difficult operational decisions have to be made. We have already seen £50M cut from the budget with a cut of £20M to come."

He continues,

"We have lost 500 police officers and 700 police staff colleagues. The next round of cuts will see a further 100 police officers, 25 PCSOs and 190 police staff posts disappear. That's the reality of what a £20M budget cut means for Kent Police."

He concludes,

"We have always maintained there would be consequences to the cuts. We've seen police station front counters closed; officers no longer attend every crime and now the withdrawal of these roles."
