KENT POLICE FEDREATION
MEDIA RELEASE
NATIONAL BALLOT RESULTS
The results of the Police Federation of England and Wales' membership ballot
have been released at their Conference in Bournemouth this afternoon.
60, 572 officers responded to the ballot: -
93% of those want arbitration that is binding on everyone and doesn't allow
the Home Secretary to arbitrarily veto a deal.
In the absence of this, 86% want the PFEW to pursue full industrial rights
including the right to strike.
Ian Pointon Chairman of Kent Police Federation says:
"This sends a very clear message to the Home Secretary and the rest of the
Government. Police officers will not stand idly by while their position is
abused. The current inability of police officers to take any form of
industrial action must be something that is recognised as a special case and
rewarded accordingly. The Home Secretary however took advantage of this and
short changed police officers."
He continued:
"Police officers do not want to strike - they want a fair deal. However, if
the Government doesn't take action on real, binding arbitration then the
PFEW has a mandate to pursue full industrial rights."
